What is a stock exchange?
The stock exchange is where investors connect to buy and sell shares. Investors can trade shares during Bursa Malaysia’s trading hours. Depending on the demand (the number of people buying) and supply (the number of people selling), the price of shares goes up and down throughout the day. Investors make a profit by buying when prices are low and selling when prices are high.
What’s sold on the stock exchange?
On Bursa, you can invest in (among others):
- Companies that are publicly listed (what we’ll be talking about in this article)
- Exchange Traded Funds (to learn more about ETFs, click here)
- Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs)
You can’t buy investment products like unit trusts on the stock exchange.
